Beaches
We are not famous for our beaches, however, directly opposite the motel is a little track leading down to a nice little beach which we like to think is our beach. It is secluded, private and one of the rare beaches that you can be undisturbed. Take a couple more minute walk away from town and you will reach Tuaati beach which is a beautiful swimming area. When the tide is out you may see the locals collecting shellfish and fishing over the reef.

Shopping
Our shops are small and spread out around the community catering mainly to the needs of the local community. A visit to them is worthwhile just to see how little our needs are in a community that grows some of what it needs.
The market is located right in the centre of town and Friday morning is when it all happens. Raw and cooked food is available and a few craft is on sale such as ei pupu (shell necklace), stone necklaces, baskets etc.
This is a favorite gathering place for the locals if only to catch up with the latest in local gossip.
Lynn Martin has a small craft shop located at the airport terminal selling a variety of interesting products.

Tours
Several tours are available on the island. ‘Clark’s round the island tours’ and ‘Clark’s Cave tours. ‘Tupuna’s circle island tours’. ‘Teremanuia’s Cave Tour’. ‘Tuara’s Cave Tours’. ‘Maui’s Cave Tours’.
Island tours will take you to places of interest round the island, inland and visiting Lake Tiriara. Don’t miss out the panoramic view from Mt Rangimotia – the centre of the island.
Clark, Teremanuia, Tuara and Maui will each take you on a tour of their family caves, each cave is an experience of its own and each cave has its own story. Be prepared to come across the skeletal remains of a few of our ancestors.

Walking
If you are wanting to do your own thing, walking is the most popular means of transport on the island. The island provides and endless variety of quiet beautiful tracks climbing the makatea (plateau). Talking to the locals can also be a rewarding experience.

Evening Entertainment
It all happens at Babes Bar on Friday and Saturday evenings only a minute away from your accommodation. This is the perfect opportunity to sit and talk with the locals over a couple of pints. Island shows are performed some nights, there is also a live band playing at Babes Bar.

Sunday Church
If you happen to be spending the weekend in Mangaia, Sunday church is a great and rewarding experience. The CICC church is the biggest denomination on the island and morning services are at 10.00am. Hear the traditional hymns sung like no other. See the locals dressed up in their Sunday best and the mama’s in their traditional hats.
